Principal's Message

Welcome Back,

2017-18 will be our best year ever!!

I am so excited to begin my first year as Principal of Desert Star Elementary School. I have spent the last 3 years as assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School. Prior to that, I was a Music Educator in Tucson, Arizona and spend my years teaching general music, choir, music theory, musical theater, drama, AP Music Theory, and Student Government. I have taught all grades from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

As I have gotten to know the teachers and staff I have found that we have an amazing group with irreplaceable experience and unbounded caring for our students. The staff here works diligently to make sure that every student receives the best education possible. We all work together to improve and refine our instructional practices and our dealings with students. Your students and our staff value your support and encouragement as we work to teach students to be accountable as they strive for excellence.

It is well known that elementary parents are very involved in their students’ education. If your student is struggling in any way, please contact your student’s teacher about your concerns. Timely communication is key to your child’s success. Should the issue need the assistance of a counselor, we have an excellent one available in our office.

We will be continuing our PTC this year here at Desert Star. You are welcome to attend our monthly meeting to stay informed and offer input regarding school activities and events. Your input is valued and your presence is encouraged. Become an active member! Our first meeting will be August 22, 2017 at 6:00 PM. We will be electing officers and planning for the year.

I have established office hours as follows: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 3:30 – 4:30PM or Tuesday/Thursday 7:30-8:00AM. Most of the time I will be in the classrooms observing and assisting with the educational process. Other times I have district responsibilities that must be fulfilled. Please contact my secretary to schedule an appointment if you need to see me. If she is not available, please leave your name and contact information. She or I will get back to you as soon as we are able.

My moto this year for my staff is – “We are VIPs”. VIP for us means Very Influential Persons and Vision, Integrity and Purpose. Thank you for trusting us with your children. We will do our best with them.

Teresa Irwin, Principal
